In our early years of service to God, we were able to see many ministries working for Christ in different ways. The thought came to mind, “What if we could do that?”
The thought first occurred when we visited Christian Cinema in Ambler, PA. Local families and kids would gather for a movie screening that ended with an alter call by Harry Bristol. It was a great time of fellowship and that was the start of the vision God had for us.
Next was our son’s graduation out in Texas. The Air Force base was close to San Antonio. There, during our time off at the base, we were able to visit a small storefront ministry that opened its doors to military men and women and their families and friends. It gave them a time with the community and to find others who were from the same town or state that they were from. It was a place where they could play ping pong, pool, and chess, drink coffee or just watch television, get prayer and get some counseling. We thought, “What if we could do that?”
When we would retire, God had His own plan for us. Living Word Community Church, which we attended in Philadelphia, had a homeless ministry and we saw how God used us to help feed and pray for them. Again we thought what if we could buy a building where we can live and retire and still be able to be involved with ministry. We were reminded of the movie nights in Ambler and the outreach for the military across from the Alamo, too.
When we returned back to Philadelphia to look for a large house or building to purchase, we were very surprised by the amount of money needed. We thought in Philadelphia it would not happen. God took us to Lancaster, PA where we still looked for land or property to do what we felt God was calling us to do. We found out it would be just as difficult to buy property there. We began attending Christ the King Community Church, and as time went on, we still felt that God had it all worked out for us and all we needed was to let Him do it in His timing.
As we visited our son and his family in the mountains of Clearfield County, PA, we saw the need for some help with basic needs like clothing and food to help those who had lost their jobs and those with low paying jobs. So we were made aware of a building that once was a high school. When we entered the auditorium, God’s spirit said to me “This is it.” My wife looked at me and said, “What is?” This is where God wants us to begin our ministry. Needless to say, the water coming from the roof did not help my cause at all.
We left and returned home to Lancaster where we prayed and sought advice from our pastor and family to see if God would speak through them as well. God did speak to the most important person in my life, my beautiful wife; she agreed to be part of what God was calling us to. It was hard for us to give up our cozy life in Lancaster to begin a new life in an old, abandoned school building.
We see now how we would be used when we give up what we think is good and perfect. We begin to see through God’s eyes. What a difference it makes to see the needs of others before our own needs. We wanted to start with a movie night but what would we call it. Talking with our children we decided Clear View but it didn’t seem right so we added God’s Clear View Ministries since we had several ministries in mind. The mountains are so beautiful and the views are so clear you could only see God in all His Glory. We hope to have people see us here clearly standing for God and sharing His love with the needy was and is our goal.
Would you stand with us and see what God can do?
In and through Jesus’ power,
